DEATH GAME OR DELETED GAME

DEATH GAME OR DELETED GAME

Many games are being deleted by their developers because of money. Don't believe because the lack of players no able to form a healthy community or because the lack of content by the developers. The main reason it's money. If a game still alive and developers still creating content and updating. It's because some people are funding it.

Games like Concord where developers spend Millions of dollars to make and later on getting shutdown after two weeks. It's a clear signal the money wasn't coming in. It's a tragic situation that the life of a modern game it's being evaluated according to the amount of money it's able to generate.

I remember days where the developers didn't have the crazy funding from investors nor the crazy technologies we have now a days, like free game engines and free tools. Anybody having the time and the motivation can make their own game literally without any funding at all and get pretty awesome results. The Independent Developers aka Indie Devs had been proving this phenomenon  time after time and game after game.

Games like No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 are games the developers refused to delete them, despite having pretty bad releases full of bugs and technical problems. These developers went back to the drawing table and update after update, they were able to fix their games to the point to be very nice and unique games in the market.

There it's no doubt Multiplayer only games are part of the problem. Many developers chasing the most amount of people to play their games, they going with the Multiplayer theme, knowing they will have to invest a lot of money in the server infrastructure only. We talking thousands of dollars every single month just to make the multiplayer feature available in the game. Way before the release of a game these developers or the publishers are already in debt, paying the server for the people to play. That game will have to make money or it's doomed to fail.

Not all it's doom a gloom. Quake Champions and Planetside 2 are multiplayer games that are still around, despite being pretty old games, people still jumping in for a match. They still fun, supported by the developers they offer an experience hard to find in other games.

Complementing those games with a good Single Player experience or a Cooperative Game Mode could help the people to adopt these games that are being deleted after a few weeks. If developers are up to update those games from time to time, people will be coming back to check for that Single Player element or that Cooperative Mode new content.

For Many People the Idea to spend time or money in a Multiplayer Only game with the sad reality it will be closed or deleted a few weeks down the line if the game doesn't make any money. It's no a good one. Even games that are in our eyes the successful ones are suffering from this phenomenon. Too much people playing and no money. To the point they have to fire developers and artist in order to the company make ends meet.

It's crazy if you ask me. How many years and millions of dollars are being added in the making of these Modern Games just to be deleted or closed after a few weeks, and thousands of people being fired in the process, sounds like total insanity.
